installing guest addition on a win7 guest (x64) on ubuntu 10.04 (x64) fails.

Description
Whenever i try to install guest additions on the aforementioned config they fail with the following error:
Updating driver for plug'n play devices ... ERROR: No driver in .INF-file selected! ERROR: Could not install files for Windows 2000 / XP / Vista! Installation aborted.
what i did: 0) i tried lowering the user control as mentioned in a forum post 1) i tried installing them in safe mode 2) i checked the runonce registry key as mentioned in a forum post.
none of the above worked
I managed to solve by installing the manually downloaded 4.0.2 guest additions
