Description (last modified by )
GNS3 network simulator, that I recently ported to VirtualBox, has few new requirements, and "16 vNICs per VM" is one of them. - to allow virtual Linux routers in big network topologies.
Current limit of '8 vNICs per VM' -- is 'ok' for medium sized labs. Large topologies won't fit in.
Thanks in advance,

This will be possible with the next major release.

Only for the ICH9 chipset, which is marked as experimental. The reason is that this needs PCI bridges, which we don't want to have in the standard, simple setup.
If you want to have a peek you could build the current trunk version. It allows 36 network cards. This confuses some Linux guests - I've seen some live CD distros where only 26 cards (randomly selected out of the 36) will get DHCP support. Configuration of anything past the initial 4 cards is only possible through VBoxManage, as usual.

This should work as of VBox 4.2.0.
Another possibility to attack this problem, would be to use multi-function VirtIO NICs: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg16057.html
