Description (last modified by )
Sudden Guru Meditation on HP EliteBook 8540w Win7 x64 SP1 host, single VM guest Win2k3 running with low activity on background. Not directly interacting with desktop at the time of Guru meditation. Never happened on this VM (over 6 months old) prior upgrading to VirtualBox 4.0.10, now happened for the 3rd time in last 6 days.
Each previous condition recovered with error message in the guest: Registry hive (file) ntuser.dat was corrupted and has been recovered
Screenshot attached (sensitive proprietary areas on the screenshot were masked out).
This VM had a single snapshot before upgrading to 4.0.10. After first guru meditation I deleted the snapshot (thought it would help but apparently didn't).

Have you preformed a memory test and hard disk test on the host? Most of the times this will show the actual cause. Just a suggestion.

chkdsk all drives on host - no errors
booted up guest for the first time since yesterday guru meditation - no registry hive errors this time
Pending Java update appeared in the quest, installed success, shutdown. Took a backup of guest to an external disk.
Booted up guest from original location and different hive error appeared in guest this time:
Registry hive (file): SOFTWARE was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.
Scheduling mdsched extended test mix for tonight. I will post an update when finished.
