Enabling the 'absolute pointing device' might help as in that case the guest should detect a USB mouse.

Sorry for the brief description, here're some details: I am running Windows 7 x64. During installation of Windows XP on my Guest, I cannot use the mouse inside the Guest if the VM window is on a different monitor to the primary one, e.g. I am using my laptop, and I dragged the Guest VM window to an external monitor. The clicks inside the guest don't click inside the guest, but they do something awkward on the host instead, sometimes the desktop icons on my primary monitor get clicked. Also, once the guest VM has the mouse, the mouse movements can actually leave the guest VM window (cursor isn't locked properly!).
