build is made with dpkg-buildpacgake
hernad@mraka-2:~/devel/virtualbox/trunk$ dpkg-buildpackage -r fakeroot
=>
... virtualbox-ose_1.5.51~svn-1_amd64.changes virtualbox-ose_1.5.51~svn-1_amd64.deb virtualbox-ose_1.5.51~svn-1.dsc virtualbox-ose_1.5.51~svn-1.tar.gz virtualbox-ose-dbg_1.5.51~svn-1_amd64.deb
by the way, it is strange that debian changelog shows 1.5.51, while there is 1.5.52 release. I suppose it is not refreshed by dch -i.

I have tried with standard 2.6.22-14-generic,
and vanila 2.6.32 kernel (built with make-kpkg)
hernad@mraka-2:~/devel/virtualbox/trunk$ uname -a
Linux mraka-2 2.6.23 #1 SMP Thu Dec 13 12:54:02 CET 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux
same manifestations.

I've found answer to this particular question on the mailing list :)

This has probably nothing to do with vboxdrv. Please try the current SVN release r6059, there is a workaround for a problem in the FE/Qt GUI which occured obviously only on AMD64 machines.

you are right.
build upon last revision resolved this problem.
thank you for your help.
I get this dmesg when I try to start a newly created virtual machine
