virtualbox doesn't list USB device with zero vendor and product ID

The device is a USB stick. I unmount it on the host (Linux), and would like to use it inside the VM. However, neither before nor after unmounting it, the virtualbox GUI doesn't want to show it in the list of USB devices.
I admit that a zero vendor and product Id is somewhat weired. However, the USB drive works just fine.
Device also doesn't show up in VBoxManage list usbhost
